Supporting community organizations
You can find Saint James’ parishioners volunteering for many nonprofits in Warrenton and Fauquier County, following that exhortation from our patron saint to “be doers of the word, and not merely hearers.”
For more information about volunteer opportunities at Saint James’, contact Bené Giglio at bene.giglio@saintjameswarrenton.org.
Firewood Initiative
EVERY SECOND SATURDAY
Saint James’ parishioners volunteer regularly to split and stack firewood for the Fauquier Community Coalition’s Firewood Initiative. The program provides firewood to local residents identified by the Department of Social Services who need firewood to keep their homes warm during the winter. Volunteers from several churches gather each week at the Warrenton Baptist Church property behind Brumfield Elementary School to split and stack wood for delivery to almost 60 individuals and families.
Fauquier Free Clinic
EVERY FIRST THURSDAY
Volunteers from Saint James’ prepare dinner once a month for the volunteers at the Fauquier Free Clinic.
Learning Starts Early
This nonprofit was founded as a Signature Ministry at Saint James’ and became an independent organization in 2015. Learning Starts Early is focused on providing tuition assistance for eligible children to attend high-quality private preschools in Fauquier County. LSE also provides educational materials for our local Head Start program and for summer programs for preschoolers in conjunction with Fauquier FRESH. LSE recruits volunteers — many from Saint James’ — for a Reading Buddies program in local Head Start classrooms.
Family Shelter Services
Family Shelter Services operates a 52-bed emergency shelter in Warrenton and a transitional housing facility in Vint Hill. FFS doesn’t receive any state or federal funding, making donations and volunteers vital to its mission.
