Ways to help Family Shelter Services in May

Family Shelter Services is the nonprofit that runs the emergency shelter in Warrenton and the transitional housing program in Vint Hill, and they help people develop life skills.

The shelter currently need donations of pillows, cleaning wipes and laundry pods. The transitional housing program needs welcome baskets — a trash can or clothes basket with cleaning supplies, trash bags, hand towels, and other household items — along with children’s outside items like sidewalk chalk, bubbles and outdoor games. You can leave donations on the Parish Hall stage, or give them to Sharon Michel to pass on.

They are also seeking volunteers on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. to help teach life skills — the subjects may include personal finances, employment, nutrition and housing — and others to help lead activities for kids during that hour. You can volunteer once or on a regular basis. Call 540-351-0130 if you’re interested in helping.
