Photos: Softball vs. Saint James’ Episcopal School
Our marquee matchup against Saint James’ Episcopal School came down to this as the light faded over Academy Hill Park the evening of Sept. 14. We were up by just one run, 27-26, in a seesaw game that featured a litany of soaring home runs punctuated by acrobatic defensive plays and some world-class chirping. We were one out away from defending our Saint James’ Cup title.
But SJES parent Patrick McDonald had other ideas. With the cup on the line, he stepped into the batter’s box and the crack of his bat could be heard from the pickleball court to Sterling Court as he sent the ball high over the center field fence for a walk-off grand slam. Final score 30-27. It was heartbreaking, for sure, but the wings from Glory Days helped soothe the agony of defeat.
