Saving lives with CPR
The American Heart Association estimates that CPR saves tens of thousands of lives each year. Approximately 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States every year, and only 10% of those survive. Only about 40% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims get the help they need from a bystander. CPR, if performed properly, can double or triple the chance of survival. Survival chances depend on many factors; one is that over 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home.
