In memoriam: The Rev. David Greer
David Jay Greer died July 20 at the age of 96. He was the rector of Saint James’ from 1964 to 1980, a transformative time in the life of this parish. It was during his tenure that the “education wing” was completed — this is the part of the building that now houses the Music Room, the Saint James’ Episcopal School preschool, and church and school offices. He also oversaw the controversial transition to the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. He retired in 1989 after serving as rector of St. Paul's in Shreveport, Louisiana, where his funeral will be held Aug. 15.
