Ministry Spotlight: Crucifers

Have you ever noticed the person carrying the cross at the front of our worship service? That is a crucifer, an important part of the liturgical ministry at Saint James’.

The crucifer carries the processional cross, leading the congregation into worship and leading the way out at the end of the service. The cross is also carried during the Gospel procession, helping draw our attention to the reading of God’s Word. Crucifers may also assist with other parts of the service and work alongside the clergy and other acolytes.

It is a ministry of service, reverence, and leadership, and a wonderful way for both young people and adults to take an active role in worship.
