Less Cancer workshop on Dec. 3

Less Cancer is hosting a free workshop, “When You See Something, Say Something,” on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Warrenton.

The program focuses on early skin cancer detection and prevention. It’s designed for those working in personal-care professions, including hairdressers, barbers, nail technicians, tattoo artists, massage therapists and other workers who often see their clients long before a doctor ever does. When they notice changes on the skin, they can make all the difference simply by saying something.

This is a critical component of access to health care, especially when it comes to something as simple — yet critical — as skin screenings. It’s especially true in the African American community, where skin cancer is too often detected late — not because people don’t care, but because regular skin checks are limited, and the signs can look different on darker skin.

The Dec. 3 event will bring together some of the best experts from across the country. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for physicians and health care providers are offered through Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

The program includes a free lunch.
