Diocesan group to host Season of Creation book study

Derrick Weston, of Creation Justice Ministries, will facilitate a discussion of Sallie McFague’s “The Body of God” over four virtual sessions in September. Weston says this book was pivotal in the formation of his philosophy of creation care.

The discussion sessions will be held on Zoom at 7 p.m. on four Tuesdays in September — Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23 and Sept. 30. That time period coincides with the Season of Creation. Participants are asked to commit to regular attendance and to reading about two chapters of the book each week.

The discussion will focus on several big questions. If God is greater than our human minds can comprehend, then we must use metaphors for God. What if creation is more than a gift to humankind, but an extension of the sacred itself? How does that change our response to creation and all that endangers it?

This series is hosted by the Diocese of Virginia’s Creation Care Committee. Register or ask questions at creationcare@episcopalvirginia.org.
