Forgiveness

Forgiveness is central to the life of faith. Admittedly, it is challenging for Christians of all ages to understand and practice. Jesus emphasizes the importance of forgiveness because he knows the effects unforgiveness can have on individuals and communities. There are so many situations within our society that, when not dealt with, can sow the seeds of bitterness and develop into deep, painful wounds.

In the reading today, from the book of Matthew, students reflected on the story of a servant who had no money to repay debts to his master. When the servant was forgiven of those debts, he didn’t show that same mercy to those who owed him. In this lesson, Jesus reminds of forgiveness and to treat others the way we wish to be treated.
