Psalms 104:25         There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number – living things both large and small.

The fourth international World Oceans Day is June 8. Ocean waves roll over 70 percent of the earth’s surface. At least half of the oxygen we breathe comes from oceans, which provide the chief source of protein for one billion people.

Our oceans are in trouble. Ninety percent of large fish populations are used up. Half of coral reefs are devastated from pollution, rising water temperatures and destructive fishing practices. Reefs are a critical part of marine ecosystems. They support fish caught for human consumption.

Last year almost 200 countries, including the US, committed to protecting 30 percent of our oceans by 2030. The initiative is known as 30x30. Now only eight percent of ocean is legally protected.
