From the volunteer coordinator: Volunteers make our church feel like home

What an amazing year it’s been at Saint James’! We’ve had over 150 volunteers serving in various ministries. Many of you are involved in more than one. Your dedication and willingness to jump in wherever needed truly makes this church feel like home.

One of our biggest ministries is Café, with over 35 wonderful volunteers. Café is made up of four teams, each taking turns setting up, cooking, and serving a fabulous breakfast every Sunday. It’s not just about the food, though the food is great! It’s about the fellowship. What a lovely way to connect with one another over a warm meal! (Café will resume in September.)

Saint James’ parishioners continue to volunteer for the Firewood Initiative on the second Saturday of each month, and we’ve seen a great turnout each time. It’s a powerful way to serve, providing warmth and support to those in need in our community. Thank you to everyone who shows up ready to split, stack and share Christ’s love in this very practical way.

We’re also incredibly grateful for our Sunday liturgical volunteers. A strong group of chalicers, readers and acolytes help lead our worship services with care and reverence. Not to mention, our greeters and ushers welcome you with a smile and help the services run smoothly. These vital ministries create a meaningful and prayerful experience for everyone who walks through our doors. 

There are so many ways to serve at Saint James’, from behind-the-scenes help to visible roles on Sunday mornings. Every single one makes a difference.

This summer, I’ll be reaching out to all our ministry leads to check in and start thinking ahead. If you’ve been considering getting more involved or want to try something new, I’d love to hear from you!
